A large dairy products packaging company required rapid vertical axis travel in their case packaging and bottling lines automation. Product was being moved over long spans between multi-level conveyor systems. Case packaging operations required a fast pace and long Z axis stroke to move product. End effectors are often large and heavy which can introduce a pendulum effect. Macron application engineers suggested using a MacBUILT Dual X / Dual Z configuration consisting of MSA-14 heavy duty actuators.

The irregular work envelopes of traditional jointed articulating arms may require redesign of existing workspaces. SCARA and articulating arm robots might be the most recognizable form of robot on the market today but look to gantry robots for getting the big jobs done in the least amount of space. Gantry robots also called Cartesian robots are almost ubiquitous with automation but for reasons beyond the scope of this article here are not quick to be regarded as serious robots. Due to their simple design, low cost and scalability and the myriad of motor and control software solutions, this is changing.

Application:
Gantry robot; X, Y & Z Axis for Optical Inspection
Industry: Solar Energy Panel Manufacturing
Challenge:
A product test station required an overhead transport system with integrated frame. Due to testing parameters the entire system needed to be non-reflective. Standard clear anodized aluminum components would not meet the requirement.
Solution: Macron 6 Cartesian Robot Gantry System
X axis – dual…
