In 2010, Macron Dynamics, a manufacturer of belt driven linear actuators and multi-axis automation systems, took a new approach to leverage their exposure in the automation industry. The company, which has relied on interactive media for years, turned to online video to showcase their linear actuators and multi-axis gantry systems in real world applications.
This video showcases a MacSTANDARD MSA-PSC low cost linear actuator with plane bearing, which was used to develop an automated foosball table by engineering and robotics students at the University of Waterloo. The system tracks shots and kicks balls back.
This application is a pick and place process for the automated transfer of a product from a feed conveyor to the final package assembly. The automated system utilizes a Macron TBG-12 X/Z gantry with a light duty single belt and a dual fixed motor multi-axis actuator.

An inspection camera and lighting required a precise reciprocating tracking motion back and forth over a 2 meter length in less than 3 seconds. The ability to vary the speed of travel and control the position of the inspection camera while performing optical inspection was also needed during process development. The inspection module needed to be an add-on element to existing processing equipment. Structural beam strength, smooth motion, and independent “plug and play” controls were necessary.
